If you feel the pangs of hunger striking, you’ll find a glass of water will do the job much better than a late snack. Drink plenty of water every day Drinking water throughout the day helps your system flushing out toxins. Water makes up about two-thirds of a healthy person’s body weight and many of the chemical reactions in our cells need water to take place. Water is also necessary for our blood can carry nutrients around the body and get rid of waste. The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) recommends that women should drink about 1.6 litres of fluid and men should drink about 2.0 litres of fluid per day. That's about eight glasses of 200ml each for a woman, and 10 glasses of 200ml each for a man. Cut out soft drinksMany regular and diet soft drinks contain excess sodium which may raise your insulin levels, making you feel more hungry. If you replace sugary drinks with water you’ll be surprised how much healthier and lighter you feel in no time at all. If you can’t do without the fizz there is always sparkling mineral water. If you liven up the water with a squeeze of fresh lemon or lime juice, you’ll find citrus is a natural detoxifying agent that helps cleanse your body. Get more sleep: Sleep gives your body time to reset itself and keep you more aligned naturally. If sleep is a problem, there are natural supplements that may help you. The National Sleep Foundation in the US recommends melatonin. When it becomes dark, the pineal gland produces melatonin, which is released into the blood. Melatonin levels in the blood will rise sharply and you begin to feel less alert and more sleepy. Melatonin levels in the blood stay elevated for about 12 hours throughout the night. With the return of daylight the levels of melatonin reduce and become barely detectable. The most important meal of the day - BreakfastMany health professionals believe a good healthy breakfast sets you up for the day. Try eating whole foods, fresh fruit and the like, you will find them surprisingly filling. Porridge is particularly good for us, especially with fresh berries and a tablespoon of chia seeds. This combination provides fibre, protein, Omega 3s, antioxidants and more.
